No Sticker Required: The Czech Vignette is 100% Digital

Forget the past hassle of window stickers. Since 2021, Czech vignettes are electronic and linked directly to your vehicle's license plate. State-of-the-art cameras on highways automatically scan plates to verify a valid vignette is active for your vehicle. This applies to all passenger cars up to 3.5 tonnes.

Your license plate is your vignette.

How to Get Your Vignette: A Simple 3-Step Process

1. Provide Vehicle Details

Enter your vehicle's country of registration and license plate number accurately. Double-check for typos, as this is how your vignette is identified.

The primary and most recommended method. The state-run site is secure and available in multiple languages. It's the most convenient way to purchase your vignette before you even cross the border.

Fines & Highway Network

Don't Risk the Fine!

Patrols and automated cameras actively enforce the vignette requirement. If you are caught driving on a tolled motorway without a valid digital vignette, the on-the-spot fine is up to CZK 5,000. This can quickly escalate to CZK 20,000 in administrative proceedings if not resolved on the spot. Don't let a simple oversight spoil your trip!

Where is it Required?

The vignette is mandatory on most major motorways, clearly marked with green highway signs (D-roads, e.g., D1, D5, D8 etc.). This includes the heavily trafficked D1 route connecting Prague and Brno. Remember that some transit sections around major cities might be exempt, but it's always safest to have a vignette if you plan to use any part of the motorway network.

Essential Tips for Foreign & Rental Drivers

A question mark icon.
Yes, absolutely. The digital vignette system applies equally to all vehicles, regardless of their country of registration. Whether you're from Austria, Germany, Poland, or further afield, if you use Czech motorways, you need a valid vignette.
Always verify with your rental agency before driving. Some rentals, particularly those advertised for cross-border travel, include the vignette in your rental fee, but many do not. It is your ultimate responsibility as the driver to ensure the car has one. Confirm this immediately upon picking up your vehicle.
Your email confirmation is your official proof of purchase. This email contains all the necessary details, including your license plate number and validity period. We highly recommend saving a digital copy on your phone for easy access during your trip and also keeping a printed copy in your glove compartment as a backup.
Yes. When purchasing through the official e-shop, you can set the start date of validity up to 3 months in advance. This feature is incredibly convenient for planning your trip, allowing you to secure your vignette well before your departure.
